| A
FEW READERS’ LETTERS
‘I have read all your books, but ‘Thursday’
was definitely your best book of all… The atmosphere you created
was so real that I really felt what it was like… I have read
many books set during the same period and never before has it struck
home like this book… Thank you for writing such marvellous
books…’
‘I’ve read most of your books when I
can get them here in Canada… Thank you so much for such wonderful
stories. I’ve loved them all…’
‘…You really do have the gift of bringing
your stories to life… Please keep on writing, can’t
wait to get reading them…’
‘I’ve
just finished your wonderful new book PS I LOVE YOU…
I’ve followed all the series of ‘The Nippy
Girls’ and loved and cared for them so much…
your characters become real friends…’
‘I
particularly enjoyed ‘WIVES & SWEETHEARTS’
and ‘LOVE & LAUGHTER’
because as a boy my husband grew up in Brentor [Devon]…thanks
again for many sweet memories…’
‘I
am devastated that the [April Grove] stories end with MOONLIGHT
& LOVESONGS. I am longing to know what happens
to everyone after the war…’
[Hopefully, you will!]
One from a man (but not the only one!):
‘I am a 75-year-old chap… I have just had the pleasure
of reading LOVE & LAUGHTER and felt
I had to write to you as so many memories came flooding back…
I had many memories of relatives in Plymouth… in 1943 I joined
the Navy and spent the next three years on convoy duty… in
1946 I went to visit Plymouth and was horrified to see the devastation…
your graphic description of the suffering borne during that time
was very moving and brought home the true horrors of war…
it was very pleasurable for me to read LOVE & LAUGHTER.
It is so well written and an accurate portrayal of the times. Thank
you for giving an old chap a lot of pleasure…’
And finally, one that I value very much (received
in June 2001):
‘I am 54 years old. I don’t read very well. I started
the book LOVE AND LAUGHTER in October
2000… I am off work at the moment … and have to rest.
So I should like to thank you for the many hours of enjoyment I
have had by reading. I am rather pleased with myself because this
is the first book I have ever read. Many thanks…’
And
thank you, to all those who have written to me about my books. Receiving
such letters is an enormous pleasure and makes me feel I have more
friends out there than I can ever count – a solace for the
hours I spend alone at the computer!
